For today’s Science lesson, I brought in old pill bottles with cotton balls soaked in different liquids that smell. The children had to try to guess what the smell was. The only one they got right was “perfume!” ha! ha!
We smelled, onion juice…
vinegar….
garlic, and perfume. Interestingly enough, when they smelled the garlic, they didn’t know it was garlic, but started naming off Italian foods. ![]()
I also have small, painted, baby food jars (thanks to a previous teacher-Mrs. Holly Walker) with small items in them. The children shake them and weigh them in their hands to try to figure out what is inside. The only one that was right was, Patrick who guessed cotton on one that you couldn’t hear anything inside.
There were… tacks,…
coins,….
cotton,…
Smartie candies,…
and paper clips.
