Learning About AB Patterns and Story Problems

This week in Morning Meeting we worked on AB patterns again. This time we used linking cubes and teddy bears. The kids are doing great with it. An AB pattern is using two different things (it could be colors, shapes, objects, etc) to create a back and forth pattern. We do it on our calendar every day. This month (October) we are using a square shape, but we are using orange and tan colors. Next month they will learn a new pattern.

This day they used teddy bear counters to make the AB pattern. Don’t you just love all these sweet faces?

Learning to Act Out Story Problems Using Teddy Bear Counters

We used the teddy bear counters today to act out the story of the teddy bears lining up to get on a pretend bus. They had to listen and put the number of bears that  I told them on the bus, then at each stop they took the bears off. Fun way to do adding and subtracting (without even realizing it!)

Art With a Little Phonics Review Thrown In…

Today we did “Old McDonald’s Farm” for an Art project.

It was also a review of the 5 vowels and their sounds. They had to place the farm animals on top of the sound that you hear in their name (i.e. cat-a). We also worked on scissor skills and on learning to cut one big piece instead of lots of little “giblets” as I like it call it. Anyone else call those little scraps of paper that or was that just a word my mom made up? Ha! ha! Oh well, the kids know what I’m talking about. They know Mrs. Messner does not like giblets on the floor! They are catching on great! I am so proud of how hard this class works!
