Movement and Music

Today we learned the song “London Bridge” and played the game. I left the part off about “take the key and lock her/him up”. They didn’t know it anyway and the CD I was using didn’t have those words. Later on we may do that…we’ll just see. Sometimes it gets a little too rough and silly but I know it is lots of fun to do that. As you can see by their faces, they loved it the way we did it anyway!

Learning to Graph…

Today we practiced graphing skills by graphing our favorite color of teddy bear counter. Learning to graph is an important skill in Kindergarten.

Library Day!!

Mrs. Katrina Paulus is our volunteer librarian. She does a great job making library day an exciting and much anticipated day. Last week was our first time to get to go and pick out a book. She also reads a story to them after they get their book checked out. (And, I get a free 30 mins! )

Math Meeting-Learning Directions

Today we practiced putting the teddy bears in different positions.

They had to use good listening skills and know what directional

words are. “On top of, underneath, beside, behind, in front of..

They had lots of fun doing this and it got pretty silly!

It was fun to try to balance the bear on your shoulder!

In front of your nose, under your chin…

Beside your shoe,

behind your ear…

on top of your knee.

Above your knee…

A is for Apple Smiles

Today we reviewed letter A and had a special surprise. I brought in apples, peanut butter and marshmallows and let the kids make their own apple smiles to eat.

First you spread the peanut butter on the apple slices. (Easier said than done!)

Then add the marshmallows to the peanut butter.

Be sure to lick your fingers if they get peanut butter on them.

Smile big when you are finished!

Be proud of your work!

And of course, get silly while eating! Yum! It was so fun!

Learning About Pennies

This week we introduced the penny! Everyone was so excited because they each have their own pennies from home to use. It was fun to explore them, count them and learn whose picture is on the front and why some of the pennies have the Lincoln Memorial on it and others have other things on it…??? (Hard to explain to a Kinder! Learning about coins has gotten so much more difficult to explain in the last few years with all the new coins that are out now. Sigh! )

They can’t wait to do it again! These kids love learning!

Practicing Counting with One-to-One Correspondence

We used the teddy bear counters and the pattern blocks today to practice counting with one-to-one correspondence. They each had 10 bears and had to give them all 1 chair each. They did very well!  

Counting Pennies to Put in the Piggy Bank

Everyone had a turn to come up and count a stack of paper pennies and put them in the piggy bank.

Reviewing Our Shapes

We had fun reviewing the shapes by singing a fun song to the tune of  “If Your Happy and You Know It”…
