Exploring Pattern Blocks and More….

Our second week of school has been a blast, and a wee bit crazy! Mrs. Messner had to take off 3 whole days to go with her husband, out of state, to take their son to his first year of college! That was really hard! 1st of all, to have to take off from school the second week! and then of course the emotional journey of leaving her firstborn son at college. Crying face But God is so faithful!

The children were well taken care of by a wonderful substitute teacher and on Thursday, they were very excited to see Mrs. Messner back in the classroom! She was thrilled as well! These kids have already stolen her heart!

We got to explore a new math material, called linking cubes. They are colorful cubes that snap together to build towers (as the kids call it). They can also be used to practice counting with one-to-one correspondence and to make patterns with. This month and next we are working on the AB pattern.

Going Fishing for Numbers

Today, Mrs. Messner let the class play a fishing game that is always a hit with Kinders! We had pretend fish in a pretend lake and used a real fishing rod (with yarn and a magnet) to catch the fish. Then we had to tell how many pounds our fish weighed. If we got it wrong we had to throw it back (no one did! Smile ) . We could have played this all day!

2) Friday Freeze (brain break)

We love getting the wiggles and giggles out by doing our daily brain break. Each day of the week has it own special song and Friday is a favorite! We do the “Freeze Song” and the kids get to move however they want till the music stops, then everybody has to freeze! They love it! And so does Mrs. Messner! Smile
